The current economic crisis has brought the issue of responsible and ethical business practices to the forefront -- corporate social responsibility has become crucial, not only to repair the damaged reputations of some industries or individual corporations, but also to restore faith in the market economy itself.
An effective CSR program, however, should do more than fulfill a duty to society; it should also bring positive financial results, including:
· improved access to capital;
· enhanced brand image;
· new commercial opportunities;
· reduced operation costs;
· attracting, retaining and motivating employees;
· increased customer loyalty.
CSR means that a corporation knows, manages and improves the impact of its operations on its employees, customers, local communities and the environment.
Smart CSR means that a corporation integrates this knowledge into the way it does business on a daily basis, anticipates trends and future regulations, and becomes an active participant in the global CSR discussions taking place today.
The increased interest in CSR comes at a perfect time for me as it sits well with my skills set. I will add value to corporations by showing them how to integrate CSR in the way they operate every day and by:
1. designing and managing effective CSR programs which are relevant to the underlying business;
2. building and maintaining awareness of CSR programs internally;
3. developing a communication strategy to promote CSR achievements externally.
